21st March 2014: FLYING track cyclist Jessica Laws is now a world recorder holder. The Kiewa sprinter shaved 9/1000s of a second off the flying 200 metres at the national titles last week averaging just under 60km/h for the trip.The world record comes in what has been a stellar fortnight for Laws — a clean sweep of her three events at the masters nationals and being named Victorian Female Masters Cyclist of the Year capped on Wednesday night with the Victorian Masters Athlete of the year gong.Laws said she was in shock when announced as the winner. “It was like one of those horrible Academy Award speeches I was lost for words but did get to thank Kevin (husband) and Seb (son) who were watching the live streaming of the awards in bed at home,” she said.

11th March 2014: Jess Laws will be looking to add a Masters Track National Championship gold (MNTC) medal to the two golds she took home from the World Masters Track Championships in Manchester last year when she competes at the Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC) starting tomorrow.
Laws, 39, is the regaining world champon in the 500-metre time trail, and the sprint race in the 35-39 years age group. This year, she will compete in a new age group (40-44 years old) and is expecting some strong competition at the MTNC's. 12th March 2014: ALBURY triathlete Jesse Featonby will be an Australian team member at the World Cup Triathlon in Mooloolaba on Saturday. His return to the national squad comes after two years on the outer. His success in the second-tier international Premium Cup last year and ranking points demanded he be given a spot in the main event. Featonby will also be part of the team that travels to New Zealand for the second round of the World Cup next week.“It’s extremely exciting to have been selected for the first two World Cup events and my aim is to be a consistent performer across all events this season,” he said.

McNeil was the shining light in a disappointing campaign by Victoria at the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Canberra over the past week, with his unbeaten century against Queensland Country impossible for the national selectors to ignore. The classy all-rounder made more than 200 runs batting at No. 3 and was brilliant in the field. McNeil, who returned to Alexandra Park this season after five years with University of NSW in Sydney, said his selection was an unexpected bonus.“It’s pretty disappointing to come away with only one win,” he said.“

1st June 2013: DEB Stoddart may have lost mobility in her hand and arm since a car accident last year but she’s lost none of her determination and sense of humour. “I was in a coma for three days,” she said. “The accident happened on the Saturday and I was out on the Friday. “I just wanted to get out — the food was terrible.”Miss Stoddart was a passenger when the ball joint fell off the wheel and the car hit a tree, one of its branches coming through the windscreen and severing three nerves and an artery in her arm.
