Philosophy on Exercise Physiology

As a relative new profession in the health industry, Exercise Physiology is aimed at applying a more holistic, pathology driven and personal approach to exercise prescription, rehabilitation and client support and progression. It is not personal training, it is a more research based individualised approach to assisting clients to improve their health, recover from incidents/injuries, improve quality of life and the way in which they conduct their activities of daily living. The easiest way to describe the role is to prescribe exercise as a medication to address chronic illness and injury and to enhance success of rehabilitation with the assistance of other Allied Health professionals.

Exercise Physiologist James McNeil

James' professional background involves the completion of a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology at UNSW. Upon completing his studies James worked as an EP at the UNSW Medicine Lifestyle Clinic which primarily dealt with individuals affected by one or multiple pathologies and revolved around the prescription of exercise and the management of that pathology and its co-morbidities. James also spent time working as an assistant to the Strength and Conditioning coach at Cricket NSW. This involved the management of athletes in the professional sporting environment and was based on strength, power and cardiovascular fitness that could be instigated and utilised to improve performance. More recently James worked as the Head physiologist at The Performance Clinic in Sydney's CBD. This involved focusing on productivity, psychology, recovery as well as physiology. In this role James worked with some of the elite business people of the country including CEO’s and CFO’s of some of the Australian leaders in infrastructure, construction, banking and insurance, including the big four.
